International Graduate Employee Fund Applications Due Jan. 31
Dear Graduate Worker,
This is an invitation to apply for the GSOC Local 2110 International Graduate Employee Accounting and Legal Assistance Fund for academic year 2021-2022. The final day to submit your application is January 31, 2023.
Our union established an International Graduate Employee Accounting and Legal Assistance Fund to assist international graduate employees with legal and/or accounting needs. This year, the fund is at $10,000 to be disbursed to graduate employees who apply and are eligible. The requirements for eligibility are:
● Hold a GSOC Local 2110 bargaining unit position at any time in academic year 2021-2022 (Fall’21, J-term’22, Spring’22, or Summer’22).
● Be an international graduate employee.
● Complete the application and attached affidavit, and provide a relevant appointment letter and a copy of the bill for the services sought in academic year 2021-2022.
For more information and to apply, please see the application form HERE.
When to apply? The fund is based on academic year schedule, therefore, we can open applications for AY 2021-2022 immediately upon approval, with the deadline of January 31, 2023. The deadline for the current AY 2022-2023 will be announced later, potentially in Fall ’23.
Why do we have to wait so long for the deadline? The fund is disbursed once in an academic year, so we need to allow time for everyone eligible to apply and be reviewed at the same time, so that allocations are calculated fairly.
How much money can we get from the fund? We don’t know yet how many applicants we will receive. The fund is $10,000 for AY 2021-2022 and $12,000 for AY 2022-2023.
How will the fund be disbursed? If the total amount requested by all eligible applicants does not exceed the fund, all eligible requests will be satisfied. If the total amount requested by all eligible applicants is greater than the fund, all eligible requests will be granted proportionately (e.g., if the total requested for AY 2021-2022 is $20,000, recipients will receive 50% of the amount they request).
What is the application process? Required documents include: filled out and notarized application form, appointment letter for any semester within the academic year you are applying for, and bill for the service(s) used for tax or legal consultation (no specifics of your situation are required). Submit your application and supporting documents to gsoc@2110uaw.org.
Applications are due on January 31, 2023.
