Resources for Guardians
Our new contract includes several important new benefits for parents as well as the expansion of several of our funds. See below for information and applications. Interested in getting involved in our childcare and family working group? Let us know!
Parental Leave
Parents and guardians can now apply for 6 weeks of paid leave. The application must be submitted 30 days before the intended leave and within 12 months of birth, adoption, legal custody, or new foster custody. Download and complete the Parental leave application here. Send completed applications to Peoplelink.
Bright Horizons
As you may be aware, we won new benefits for working families in our contract fight last Spring, including access to elder and child care services offered by Bright Horizons. NYU’s Bright Horizons client page is now live. This has resources such as childcare assistance, free sittercity accounts, children’s coding classes, and more.
Childcare Fund
The union administers a childcare fund that increases annually. In 2023, the fund is at $225,000 to be disbursed to graduate employees who apply and are eligible. This operates in addition to the $300 childcare stipend from NYU. The fund is distributed annually (per the calendar year) to support parents and guardians of dependents under the age of 6. Applications are due by January 31, 2024, for Calendar Year 2023.
Dependent Healthcare
Our workers are eligible to apply to the dependent healthcare premium reimbursement fund. This reimbursement may be up to 90% of the cost of their dependent’s healthcare premium depending on fund applications. Applications for reimbursement of Spring 2023 premiums are due by August 21, 2023.
