#StrikeOnNYU April 26: Demands Discussion w/ BC this Wed
In the past two weeks, 96.4% of you voted YES to strike. Now, our bargaining committee has set the strike deadline for April 26th.

After months of negotiating for a new contract, we’re ready to put more pressure on NYU by withholding our labor. With our membership’s support (1,336 YES votes out of 1,386 total votes!), we set a strike deadline for April 26th.
If NYU cannot come to an agreement with our bargaining committee before then, all adjunct instructors, teaching assistants, graduate assistants, research assistants, and hourly workers will stop grading, teaching, and holding office hours.
On Wednesday, April 14 we’ll make decisions about some of the exact demands of our proposals that we’re striking over. If you plan to attend this meeting, RSVP here. Once you RSVP, we’ll send you information outlining different options and a mechanism for decision-making that will engage all membership’s input before and during the strike.

Withholding our labor is our most powerful, and legally protected tool:
It is the best chance we have at gaining better compensation, health care and child care, and protections for international students. Though NYU might retaliate by withholding pay, workers will receive mutual aid funds, and compensation from the UAW strike fund for showing up at in-person and virtual picket lines. You can make a pledge to the strike fund here. Finally, if you are an international worker, remember that you have the same rights as US citizens to participate in union activity, including striking. It is illegal for NYU to retaliate against you for protected union activity.
