[#TBT 2002] NYU Teaching Assistants Win Major Gains in First-Ever Contract at Private University

Today’s TBT is an original version of the 2002 GSOC/UAW press release on our historic first contract, which included a 38% increase to the stipend minimum and paid healthcare coverage for the first time. At the time, NYU praised the agreement as well, saying it recognized “the importance of graduate students to our community” and “the need to be competitive with peer institutions in attracting excellent graduate students.” In other words, collective bargaining made NYU a better, more accessible university.
