May Members’ Meeting, Health & Safety Working Group, and Organizing Committee Elections!

Dear fellow workers,

Join us Tuesday, April May 16th at 4:30 PM in King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center (KJCC) Rm 701. Read on to find out more about this meeting, forthcoming steward elections, and being a part of GSOC’s Health & Safety Working Group.

Monthly Member’s Meeting—in person!

Join us in person on Tuesday May 16th at 4:30 PM for our monthly members’ meeting. The meeting will be held at King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center (KJCC) Rm 701. We’ll discuss summer organizing plans, update you on ongoing grievances, and elect new stewards and organizing committee co-chairs. Unit reps, Local 2110 reps, Organizing Committee members, and stewards will all be in attendance.

If you can’t make it in person, we will keep a hybrid zoom going. The room has full virtual capacity.

Join the Health & Safety Working Group!

The GSOC Health and Safety Working Group is committed to ensuring safe and hospitable working conditions for all members of the NYU community – and especially those who experience race-, gender-, class- and immigration-based precarity. We’re looking for two members to represent GSOC in meetings with NYU to discuss graduate employees’ concerns regarding safe working conditions and health risks associated with the presence of cops on campus. If you’re interested, please fill out this form.

Steward and OC Co-Chair Elections

We still have several steward vacancies in Tandon, Steinhardt, and the professional schools, and STEM, as well as one vacant seat in GSAS. If you are interested in running for any of the open steward positions, email gsoc@2110uaw.org by Monday, May 15 to express interest! We will talk you through the steward position, help you get familiar with the contract, and offer support as you organize your co-workers.

We also have three open positions for co-chair of the Organizing Committee. Co-chairs strategize the direction of the Organizing Committee by identifying common workplace issues across campus and building campaigns to address them. Co-chairs also facilitate weekly meetings with the Organizing Committee and Stewards to conduct walkthroughs, talk to members one-on-one, maintain member engagement and card-signing density. Outgoing co-chairs are happy to talk through the position and offer appropriate trainings! Please email gsoc@2110uaw.org with any questions!
