NLRB Hearings Begin!
In light of the recent National Labor Relations Board decision, the NLRB will begin to hear our case tomorrow, Thursday, November 18th. Once again, we are setting out to make history, this time by overturning the Brown decision and winning back collective bargaining rights for graduate employees working at NYU and all private universities in the United States! As anticipated, NYU is choosing to spend millions of dollars from the university budget (read: undergraduate tuition) on union-busting lawyers to prevent us from exercising our right to have a union and bargain collectively. Their strategy is crystal clear: Stall and run up the bill! However, this time we will work our way towards victory by putting the pressure right back on them so we can complete the hearings as quickly as possible and have an election to vote for our union!
The GSOC/UAW legal team is calling its first witnesses tomorrow and Friday to testify about the work we all do as teachers, researchers, and graduate assistants. The hearings are open to the public, so come on down and join us tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. The address of the NLRB New York Regional Office is below.
26 Federal Plaza, Room 3614 (36th floor) New York, NY 10278-0104
And feel free to come and observe the proceedings anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the following days (still subject to change):
Thursday, November 18 Friday, November 19 Tuesday, November 23 Thursday, December 2 Friday, December 3 December 6-9, 13-16
Of course, our cautiously anticipated legal victory will only be rewarded if we continue to organize and build our membership as we prepare for an election next semester! Let’s keep at it!
If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please call the UAW offices at 212-529-2580 or email us at gsocuaw@gmail.com.
