Bargaining update – June 11th, 2020

On June 11th, 2020, our bargaining committee had the first impact bargaining session with NYU. Impact bargaining is separate from bargaining for our next contract, which we are aiming to begin in July. Impact bargaining will primarily focus on our working conditions related to COVID-19, while regular bargaining will cover a wider range of demands.

We commenced the meeting with introductions. Then, the bargaining committee presented the demands proposals covering the following issues:

  • Maintenance of position (no hiring freeze)
  • Guaranteed option for remote work in the fall
  • Summer funding and expanded emergency funding
  • PPE and social distancing protections
  • Improved health benefits
  • Maintenance of visa statuses
  • Visa and SEVIS fee reimbursement fund
  • Cutting NYU-NYPD ties (see our petition here)

You can read the full proposals here

After the presentations, the university’s bargaining team (Sandi Dubin-Associate General Counsel & Director of Labor Relations and Matthew Driscoll- Assistant Vice President, Employee and Labor Relations) responded that the proposals are comprehensive and will have to be discussed with higher-up admins in more detail.

We then discussed dates for the next bargaining session which will take place on June 26th at 12 pm. Bargaining sessions are open to all and we encourage you to attend.
