We ask that faculty and supervisors support our right to strike by:

  • Talking to students, colleagues, and administrators about your support. Your opinions matter, especially to those around you. You can use your authority to speak in favor of graduate workers.
  • Incorporating the strike into your teaching & pedagogy. Explain to your students and colleagues why we are striking and why it’s important.
  • Signing and sharing this open letter calling on the university to settle a fair contract.
  • Working with your department to produce a letter to the administration in support.
  • Not reporting the names of those striking to the administration!
  • Not replacing graduate labor and thus minimizing the impact of our strike.
  • Not hiring replacement workers
  • Not doing the administrative, logistical, research, or other work your graduate worker colleagues would usually be assigned.
  • Passing the problem of ungraded work up the administrative chain so that it becomes a problem for the central administration, increasing pressure on NYU to reach an agreement with GSOC.
  • Moving class “off-campus” and off NYU zoom for the duration of the strike.
  • Canceling or postponing all public NYU events, including conferences, workshops, and lectures. Send out cancellation notices that express your support for striking graduate workers.
  • Joining us on the picket line! Bring your class! Faculty presence encourages students and graduate workers and shows how wide the support for our strike is.
