Come work with us!

We are looking for someone to work with GSOC as a part-time Targeted Outreach Organizer. This person would be employed by Local 7902 and help GSOC extend our reach in underrepresented departments and programs. See the job description and how to apply below:

NYU Graduate Student Organizing Committee (GSOC-Local 7902) Targeted Outreach Organizer

Job Title: Targeted Outreach Organizer

Status: Part-Time (5 hours per week)

Pay Rate: Local 7902 Standard ($36.35/hour, with increase to $37.44/hour in January)

Job term: Start date ASAP – End Date Aug 31, 2026

Purpose of the job

  • Expanding organizing capacity for the Contract Campaign: Our contract is expiring in August 2025. For our next step in the campaign, we are working on hosting large-scale town halls about bargaining generally as well as specific contract issues. We should aim for at least 100 people in attendance at each town hall with presence from all 5 turf districts (GSAS Humanities, GSAS STEM, Steinhardt, Tandon, Prof Schools). This will take significant outreach support.
  • Expanding our reach in STEM, Tandon, and Steinhardt: The demand prioritization survey, which was conducted from April to June 2025, is the most tangible, empirical evidence we have about our outreach strengths and weaknesses. After aggressive efforts, we were able to get responses from a third of GSAS Humanities members and a quarter of Professional Schools members. However, for GSAS STEM, Tandon, and Steinhardt, our response rates were 19%, 4%, and 14%, respectively. This should not be viewed as an indication of lack of interest from members in these schools but rather a limitation of our outreach capacity. For example, we were able to develop our outreach efforts by focusing on GSAS STEM this summer, and its relatively high response rate is a testament of that. To that point, in a later PhD stipends survey, we were able to test and solidify our relationships with at least one department contact in all but one STEM department. This shows that we are capable of reaching this level of outreach if given the resources.
  • This person will work closely with the other 7902 staff organizer positions assigned to GSOC

How

Through 1-on-1 outreach and snowball method

  • Reach out to people already 1-on-1’d (n=70)
  • Ask those people to send a thing in their department and check in with them afterwards
  • Reach out to people who filled out the survey (n=400)
  • Have each person reach out to their own departments (write copy)
  • Reach out to TAs working this semester (check Albert instead of waiting on BUE)
  • Conduct office walkthroughs in Tandon, STEM, and Steinhardt
  • Ask unit reps to use steward email to reach out to their Fall BUE (write copy)
  • Conduct 1on1s, train new outreach members on 1on1s, and support the outreach team by funneling in a steady stream of 1on1s
  • Constant Contact email weekly reminder for town halls (write copy)

Who

Someone with a proven track record of significantly increasing outreach and sustaining those contacts. Ideally a long-term GSOC member.
